What is naturopathic nutrition

& what can it do for you

Naturopathic nutrition is a complementary therapy that treats everyone as an individual taking into account your medical history, environment, lifestyle and any personal risk factors or weaknesses affecting your health.

Practitioners aim to seek out and advise on ways to remove or reduce the cause of disease using tools to evaluate nutrient intake, food quality, dietary behaviours and lifestyle so that a personal nutrition plan can be developed.

What I do

Although I see clients with a range of problems I have a special interest in all ages and stages of women’s health, digestive health and supporting treatment and recovery from cancer.

Following a consultation I will put together a diet, supplement and lifestyle plan to help you achieve your wellness goals and review you regularly in clinic to make sure you are on track.

It is possible for even the busiest clients to make better food and lifestyle choices and get more out of their lives and I will show you how!

What to expect

Book an appointment

After booking your first appointment with me I will email you a health questionnaire and a food diary to complete and email back to me before our consultation. This will include your medical history, current medications and what you would like to concentrate on in our session. Taking time to complete this in as much detail as possible will enable us to get the most out of your appointment – see it as your first positive step towards better health.

Initial Consultation

A fact finding mission! In this consultation we will discuss your symptoms, past and current medical history, lifestyle and goals. The facts gathered in this case taking will be used to form the basis of your personalised plan which I will email to you the following day. The plan will include lifestyle measures such as stress management, exercise recommendations and supplements as well as dietary suggestions. If appropriate functional testing may be suggested.

Follow up Consultation

A follow up consultation will normally take place approximately 4 weeks after we first meet depending on your health issues or if there are test results to discuss. Follow up consultations last approximately 45 minutes. We will discuss how you are getting on, any new symptoms you may be experiencing and update your plan as appropriate.

What is functional testing?
Functional tests are often used to assess signs of imbalance. They may provide clues to current and future health issues. Many tests can be done conveniently at home. Functional tests vary in price and there is no obligation to undertake them. If you are showing signs and symptoms of a deficiency such as iron or vitamin D I may recommend we check your levels - this can usually be carried out by your GP.

Will you recommend expensive supplements?
Sometimes I may recommend specific nutrient supplementation to give you a health boost while we wait for the diet and lifestyle changes you are making to take effect. I use a range of high quality supplement companies on an individual basis and am not in alliance with any supplement manufacturers. Supplements are not intended for long term use.

What if my symptoms are acute?
Nutritional therapy is not a substitute for conventional medical care but works alongside it – if you are displaying any ‘red flag’ symptoms I will refer you back to your GP.

If I have any queries between appointments what should I do?
I am happy to answer straightforward queries on email between appointments but anything beyond this will require a follow up appointment.

What is your payment and cancellation policy?
Payment is by cash or cheque at the time of consultation or by bank transfer 24 hours before our appointment. I operate a 24 hour cancellation policy after which the cost of the session will be due so please do get in touch if keeping your appointment starts to look tricky.
